Oh and for those who don’t get how analogies work and get caught up on the wrong details, just replace the artists I mentioned (for the sake of analogy) with three no-named artists and titles of work that no one recognizes. – Daniel Kim, Youtube commenting on the POP DANTHOLOGY 2014 haters That’s my critique on (not my defence to) the commentary. “nono, Picasso is the king of painting! He uses more imagination!” “da Vinci wins! I mean… c’mon, his paintings are actually accurate.” Why did he not use the colour magenta? If he had used more magenta, his painting would have been better!” “There’s so many other colours he could have used. Why did he use so much of the colour orange in his painting?! I checked out once I saw the colour orange in his painting.” “Disappointing! His Mona Lisa was not as good as his Last Supper! He just went downhill since his Last Supper painting.” People walk inside a museum displaying works of art by Picasso, van Gogh, da Vinci…
Kim: putting so much time and effort into a project on your own expense and then having your fan-base hate it and demanding more from this entertainment that you are providing free of charge. Commenter’s posting things like ‘This sucks, 2013 was WAY better!’, ‘Why wasn’t 5sos in this?! So disappointing!’, ‘What is Ariana Grande doing on this? I hate Ariana Grande!’ but I guess that’s how the internet can be sometimes. Some people liked it, others thought it was OK, but a lot of people resented it. And then… the internet was kind of ‘meh’ about it. People get the notification from the Daniel Kim Channel.
Think back to 15 December 2014: another year is near its end, people are making Best of 2014 playlists and the long anticipated latest addition to the POP DANTHOLOGY series is released. By the release of POP DANTHOLOGY 2013 he was mixing over 68 songs! And it wasn’t just a bunch of songs played one after the other, certain snip-its of lyrics were mixed particular instrumentals and they were paced really well throughout the 5 minute piece. But it only got better from there as every year the songs seemed to out-do the last. 22 January 2011 was the day he uploaded his first instalment to the series, with just 23 songs from that year making the cut. Much like DJ Earworm he is a Mash-up artist, but unlike Earworm the amount of songs that Kim brings together is extraordinary. Daniel creates an anthology (hence the word DANTHOLOGY) of multiple popular songs from throughout that particular year, blending them together to create a piece that gives outline of the years hits. Daniel Kim is a Canadian composer know for his yearly POP DANTHOLOGY releases.
